I am the oldest of 3 siblings. Myself, my brother, and my sister.
My brother and I have always been really close seeing as how we are only a year and 1/2 apart (I’m a full 6 years older than my sister). We grew up playing all sorts of awesome games from the standard flash-light tag to animal monsters and fort building Indians in our expansive, wooded backyard. As such I was the girl who was always interested in paintball guns, snakes, lizards, and spiderwebs. Always held captive by the dream of exotic adventures in far away lands.
But, I’m a girl, and there are “2″ of me… so to speak. Chase (seriously best brother in the World) gets to do all sorts of awesome things because everyone wants to spend time with the only boy in the family. Camping? Yes. Paintball/pellet/blow guns? Yes. Getting invited to father son concert time at the Roger Waters “The Wall” concert? Oh my goodness it’s this Thursday. I LOVE Pink Floyd. Yes. And the latest: Being given a vintage Mongolian style polished wood bow (from the late 50′s) complete with a leather quiver and collection of arrows.
It is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! Wow, I love vintage things. The craftsmanship is just stunning. AND every time we ever played anything I always wanted my weapon to be a bow and arrow. (Did I mention my crush on Robin Hood?)
Anyway, not that I’m complaining. I get to do lots of wonderful things too
. Like wine and painting classes with my wonderful mother. Like ‘private’ sewing and cooking lessons from my amazing grandmother. Like vintage pressed glass plate shopping (my favorite). Plus all the other great aspects of being a girl.. too many to count
AND – as I mentioned above, he really is the best brother in the World. He trusts me with every awesome bit of anything that he gets. As soon as we find someone who carries bow strings (Dick’s doesn’t) then I get to shoot it. So excited.
AND – very very proud of him, he just received his acceptance letter to UGA! He’ll be studying Art Education. He is an incredibly talented artist.
and speaking of Art – there is an old practice of marbling paper. You know when you look at an old book and the opening pages have those elaborate swirls of color? Inspired, I decided that I would try it out. I need to perfect it some, but essentially what I did was float enamel colors on water and swirl them together. I then pressed a piece of paper on it to transfer the design.
I’m sure the internet has more complete instructions.. but in a moment of inspiration who really has the time to look it up completely?
and so – my little bits of marbled paper. Enjoy!
